4H

Slough Farm has since 2018 offered a 4H group for island youth. 4‑H is America’s largest youth development organization—empowering nearly six million young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime. The “Slough Farm Super Silos” began with a cloverbud group, 4H’s youngest participants (5-7 year olds), and is now a group for kids aged 8-12. Slough Farm has worked primarily with a core group of kids providing hands-on experiences and educational opportunities year round. Led by Slough Farms Executive Director, Julie Scott, 4H participants follow the National 4H pledge:

“I pledge my head to clearer thinking,

My heart to greater loyalty,

My hands to larger service,

and my health to better living,

for my club, my community, my country, and my world.”

At Slough Farm, island youth get immersed into the workings on the farm and participate in fulfilling our mission. We learn about caring for the animals, preserving and baking in the kitchen, tending the garden, creativity, teamwork and collaboration. Utilizing problem solving, trusting each other and learning respect for all living things.

The 4H calendar runs October through September each year. Occasionally there are vacancies in the Super Silos, so if your child is interested contact Julie Scott at julie@sloughfarm.org for more information.
